When did Ford start using shift on the fly system? I always thought that was a Chevy and Dodge thing.

How can I tell if my truck is equipped with ESOF, on a 2015 and a 2003?

They've been using the shift on the fly for a while. My 2002 was shift on the fly.

If you've got a selector on the dash, you've got ESOF.

My mom's 1994 explorer had it. It was the new big thing in the Eddie Bauer package.

Hmm, so I don't think my dads truck has it, my truck at work has a selector on the dash, is that for both the locking differential and the hubs?

My dad's 06 FX4 has it. Like the guys above said, any vehicle with the 4x4 selector on the dash has it.

Ok, so if it has the lever on the floor it would have manual hubs.

    Got it!

Depends on the year. I'm not positive about the new ones, but I know the 03 ish trucks have a manual locking hub with an auto option. if you leave it on auto and shift it on the dash the vac system will lock the hubs... I'm not positive about the trucks with a manual t case though, I would assume it's the same.

Hmm, well I googled Ford ESOF switch and looked at some pictures, and neither truck has a switch like that.

Could that be a higher package option, like Lariat or King Ranch?

The 2003 is an XLT, the 2015 is an XL.

I'd be surprised if the 2003 has it, but the 2015 should. I couldn't find anything definitive on the Ford website
