97-03 F-150 4x4 Pitman Arm Removal and Installation

    Pitman Arm
    Removal & Installation

    To Remove:

    1) Deactivate air suspension (if equipped)
    2) Safely raise and support the vehicle.
    3) Remove or disconnect the following:
    • Skid plate (if equipped)
    • Plastic cover from intermediate shaft to steering gear and remove intermediate shaft from steering gear with the bolt (4WD Vehicles)
    • Cotter pin and steering sector shaft arm drag link castellated nut
    • Steering shaft arm drag link using special tool
    4) Make alignment marks between steering gear sector shaft and steering gear sector shaft arm.
    5) Remove or disconnect the following:
    • Nut connecting steering gear sector shaft arm to sector shaft
    • Steering gear to frame mounting bolts
    • Return line (allowing fluid to drain) from steering gear by sliding spring clamp
    • Pressure line from steering gear
    • Steering gear
    • Steering gear sector shaft arm by positioning gear in a vise and using special tool
    To Install:

    1) Install or connect the following:
    • Steering gear sector shaft arm
      A) Torque to: 173-233 ft. lbs. (234-316 Nm)
    • Steering gear to vehicle
      A) Torque to: 50-67 ft. lbs. (68-92 Nm)
    • Pressure line to steering gear
    • Return line to steering gear
    • Steering gear sector shaft arm to sector shaft aligning marks
    • Steering shaft arm drag link with nut and cotter pin
    • Intermediate shaft to steering gear with the bolt (4WD Vehicles)
    • Plastic cover to intermediate shaft to steering gear (4WD Vehicles)
    • Skid plate (if equipped)
    2) Reactivate air suspension (if equipped).
    3) Lower the vehicle.

    Yeah, now I need to find a write-up for a Idler arm but it's not in my two books of knowledge.. as you can tell I need to do these to my truck lol
