So with the new arrival coming sometime in August, we are finally moving forward with the plan to replace the escape with something more long term, we've been putting it off for awhile, this thing has too many issues to deal with fixing at 120k. I've been looking at 07-10 edges, and 07-10 escapes under 50k and they all seem to be around 18-20 depending on options. I like the explorers, but my wife thinks they just look like any other boxy SUV, but for 3k less we can get a much nicer and newer explorer than either of the other two, so I've been looking into it more and hopefully I can sway her by finding a nice decked out exploder. I'm wondering if anyone has any info on the two motor options. Gas mileage isn't TOO much of a concern since she won't be commuting anymore, but its still a factor. I'm wondering if the 3v 4.6 is as reliable as I hear, and if anyone who has a 4.0 could shoot me actual mileage numbers that would be awesome. I'm leaning towards the 4.6, my buddy's wife has one, he says the mpgs are pretty comparable to his rangers 4.0, but obviously that's a bit different ha ha. He said they are gettig the high teens to low twenties with mixed city and freeway. My main concern is getting this thing to 150k without any major problems. Right now I'm looking at an 06 Eddie Bauer, 4.6, 4x4, with 55k for 15900. No pics on the website yet, but we might swing by and take a glance tonight.

So if my buddy isnt lying the mileage is pretty comparable. Looks like I'm going to scope out the 4.6 ha ha. Can't beat that triton reliability.

    / thread.

just want to throw this out there, you may want to look into something bigger than that.. my parents bought a 01 Yukon XL new, I was 10 and my brother was 13. it is great for road trips, 5.3L V8 got about 20 MPG whether it was empty or loaded. seats 8 comfortably, plenty of room for sure, can take out the backseat and lay the middle one down for tons of space. and with the trailer tow package it will tow just as good as my truck. its the best road car we have had yet. its got I think ~140k on it, only problems were: 3 fuel pumps (all went out within like 2 months of eachother, dealer replaced) and one trans (we think pullin a 25' tandom axle 6?7? foot tall box trailer moving my grandparents from MI to TX, 3 trips up and down hills killed it, was able to limp it in 2nd to a GM dealer in IL to get a new one)

heres a picture of it with my brothers new 16' 4wheeler trailer

oh also, its been garage kept all its life, the dash is perfect, the paint hasnt faded, the leather inside is still in perfect condition, just warn down a little, everything is solid, doors shut good, suspension is tip top (I dont think we have even had to maintance any of the balljoints on the entire thing. those tires are amazing, its the second set, the others had 60k on them, we had to replace them b/c they were dry rotting, still had atleast 30% on them.

We got an 03 explorer combined mileage right around 18-19. Also add that it's 2wd

Excursions too big, she's already worried about the explorer being too big. She likes smaller cars, it was a stretch gettin her into the escape. Women are cooky.
