Checked it before I started it, oil level was way high. Checked it about 5 times. Let it run and heat up, checked it again and it was at the same spot.

Doesn't seem like the oil is getting trapped
    in the valve covers then.

Pull a plug and check it's condition,
    does it look oil soaked?

If several random plugs are oil
soaked with the oil level at normal
more than likely worn oil rings then.

I'll have to pull plugs again to check them out.

I might just have to rebuild this engine.

Sounding like the better option. At least 302 parts are cheap and plentiful and it's not your every day driver

I think I'm done chasing this problem.

Getting an engine hoist from one buddy and a stand from another.

I think I've got a set of heads picked out already, need to find a GT40 upper and lower intake. Looks like they came on the explorers.

Gotta pick out cams and pistons. Not getting this done anytime soon.

As some of you guys may know, this project has been put on hold. My brother blew a rod bearing in his Jeep engine so I'm rebuilding that. Hoping I'll have it done by the end of the month.

    Starting the project up again.

Pulled a set of GT40p heads from a 97 explorer today. Cost me $75.

Building an engine for the truck, either a 302 or a 351. I have a friend that has a friend with a 351 block laying around, might be taking it off his hands.

Updates will come while I progress.
