So after a bit of dickering around on a few others, i ended up picking this one up. 1995 f150xl, 302 v8, 5 speed 4x4(manual transfer case, external hub locks), ext cab short box. Has 248 kilometers/ 155k miles on the clock. Recently worked on clutch/master, etc

Aside from the ding in the passenger side door, the bodywork is good, no rust. Lots of paint still on the frame, flaking off with some surface rust elsewhere that im hoping to get at soon with a wirewheel then POR15 treatment.

Havent been able to spend much time with it since i bought it a few weeks back, off at school. It seems to have a exhaust leak(hear kind of a thupthup thup sound from engine bay when gassing it), and the under bed spare retention thing is missing. Otherwise seems pretty good. Not sure what gear ratio it is, though it does seem geared pretty high. Redline for these? doesnt say on the dial, though it goes up to 6k.

Its currently sitting on 31x10.5's, hoping i can fit 32x11.5 or 33x10.5's in there when these wear out without lifting it. It seems pretty level already, looks like i got lots of clearance for tires.

Should look a fair bit nicer soon as i find somewhere else to keep the canopy. May remove the bug deflector up front as well.

Seems to be really really gas hungry, anything that could explain that?

They get bad mileage, that's the only explanation. I've squeezed 20 out of my 6cyl, but that's it

    Truck looks great.
Some one must have power washed up
under it after driving on salted roads
in the winter to be mostly rust free.

    Gas hungry for sure.
May try some hypermiling tricks to save on fuel as well as a mini service,
    check/replace if needed spark plugs/wires, oil/filter change,
    air filter, tire pressures.

Cool, yeah might need new air, fuel filters, etc could definitely contribute.

Even my brother who drives a carb'ed 454 truck said its gas hungry when he drove it, so i suspect something is a bit wrong with it.

I heard that exhaust leaks can cause bad mileage too, especially if it causes the o2 sensor to think its running lean when it sucks air in.

    Ever use Seafoam?
    $6.99 USD on sale.
    Couldn't hurt.
    Check YouTube

To get rid of carbon in the cylinders.

Be careful not to use to much at once,
    It can hydrolock the engine.

    Nice looking truck!

How bad is the mpg to be "gas hungry"? If it's 12-15mpg, that's about what they get. If it's under 10, you have a problem.
Like the other guys said, check tire pressure first, then air filter, spark plugs, oil change. I would even replace the diff fluid when you get a chance.

Also make sure that your brakes aren't dragging, that'll kill mpg in a big way.

Well, my brother with a carbed and not quite tuned up 454 in his squarebody says it seemed really gas hungry, when he borrowed it. Like a quarter of a tank gone after 60k kind of thing. 1/8th of a tank driving like 15 minutes to go get a christmas tree at 60kph.

Ill have to drive it some more to really get any good numbers, but it does seem like the guage is just swinging left.

When i first got it, filled both tanks, front one seemed to start leaking out towards the end, seems to be holding at around 3/4 tanks, ive just been using the back tank.
