Hey guys been a long time. Wife's 08 expedition blows hot air. I used a can of R134a and it worked for a couple days, but the rear AC has this hissing sound... Reading online says it's still low if it's hissing, but the gauge says the pressure is just fine. Not sure if I really want to dump another can in yet. Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk
Best to vacuum the system using a vacuum pump. I've done the add a can to ACs in the past and never had good results, even the sealant and freon in the same can wouldn't work until I vacuumed the system. Find someone who has a vacuum pump or by a cheaper one yourself then sell it on. The UV dye in a can will help you find the leak using a UV light after putting it in the system but first and always vacuum the system.
I bought a Robinair from Amazon. was $109 including shipping, single stage 3 CFM, works great, pulled a full vacuum in less than 10 minutes on the Ranger. Now the Expedition would take longer being a front and rear air system. I also picked up a cheap set of manifold gauges, just to show low and high side pressures and vacuum. The cost of these tools plus freon @ $4.99 a 12oz. can from Walmart will be cheaper than an AC shop doing the job unless you have a leak in an expensive component. I still think you would come out cheaper on the labor and parts cost is parts cost without markup.
