So lately but not everyday my truck has been having cylinder head temp over heating issues. I'm a little lost where to start. My fan isn't kicking on but it does do a few revolutions on first start up so I don't think the clutch is out. I have a gryphon tuner and I can read the cylinder head temps so I don't think it's the sensor. And yes I have coolant. Any tips?

IMO fan should be turning more than a few revolutions.
Shouldn't there be a steady wind off of it at start up?

    Anyone?

I thought it ran longer on start up too but couldn't remember.

    I would,

    Price the clutch from RockAuto.
You can rent the clutch tool from
    the parts store.

    Youtube how to video.

Then price an e-fan from Amazon
    and the thermostat and relay.

Cost comparison Clutch/tool rental vs E-fan
    and electric thermostat.

Wouldn't be a bad time to check
the thermostat and put in a Fail-safe type.

So I watched the fan and it ran for longer than I thought. So maybe it's just my thermostat? I'm really at a lost here. Not that I'm an expert by any means.

Pull the thermostat and boil it in an old pan
of hot water, watch for it to open.

If it opens, thermostat not the problem.
Cost ya a gasket and some silicone.
Good idea to replace it after several years anyways.

Buy a 99 cent antifreeze tester.
With the tiny floating balls in it.
    Check that out.

If anitfreeze checks good you could have a
    clogged radiator needing a flush.
Open the radiator cap and look for white scale
down in the cooling vanes, channels, tubes.
They have radiator flush stuff @ Wal Mart.

50% antifreeze 50% water never let me down.
100% antifreeze will boil over, glycol (antifreeze)
    needs water to activate it.

Hope to give you the cheapest fix first.
