Hey guys my brake light and abs light come on recently was wondering if anyone knew what todo to fix it. I put brake fluid in and let it sit for two days and the light went off but came back on like a half day later hope someone can help!
what year is the truck? how low was your brake fluid? have you noticed any fluid leaks around the wheels? at the master cylinder? take your truck to a local auto part store that has a scan tool that is capable of reading ABS issues.
It's 97 and it was maybe an 1/8 inch from the max line and no fluid drip at all at the master cylinder there is a very very small one through the cruise safety switch. It happened last year then I blew my headgasket and the truck sat and when it finally got fixed (new motor) the light was off... Before I blew the headgasket I put a new speed sensor in the rear diff and that did not clear the light
I thought you couldn't read abs codes for this year truck something about tapping into a wire and counting how many times it blinked
im not too sure on that, I would try to have it scanned. I thought ABS was readable when everything went OBD2 (after 1996) is your parking brake engaged? pull the release and wiggle the cable a time or two and see if the light goes off.
My parking brake is not engaged... It is a stick so I have used the parking brake... The longer the truck sits the longer the light tends to stay off it seems
Hey guys just an update on this... It appears that when it is cold out (eastern wi) that the light does not come on... Any ideas
Sounds like an intermittent electrical connection on the ABS electrical system. Maybe a wheel sensor circuit that opens when warm out?
Check all the connections especially the ones with shr ink tube. I just had an issue that at some point in my truck life the shrink tube (they use adhesive llined stuff) and the adhesive reflowed and Fripp into the cone tor making and intermittent connection. Was on my starter solenoid. But also don't forget a 97 can have corroded wiwires or such. Vibrations will change the wires conductivity if it's damaged
