Thanks guys...the 460 I'm building for this truck (and will be installing next week) has a roller cam with an RV grind specifically for torque and towing, has Ford Racing Super Cobra Jet heads, Edelbrock performer 460 intake, headers, 4 speed, etc...The dyno program I have says the engine will be pushing 450 hp at 4500 rpm and 600 lb/torque at 2000 rpm, with the FAST EFI system. I"m building it to tow my 29' travel trailer. It currently has a stock 400 with a Edelbrock intake and Holley Street Avenger 670 cfm. It's a low compression (8.0:1 compression, stock cam) engine and doesn't have the power I need for towing. So this 460 will be a huge improvement. I"m also considering installing a gear vendors overdrive unit behind the tranny, but I need to get the 460 installed an the EFI system hooked up first....
Sounds like a torque monster. That '74 F100 was setup to tow a PTM 1973 Holiday Vacationer. Wife's grandpa owned it before us. He was a Wagon Master in the NTC National Traveling Campers Delaware chapter.
From what I understand, and I could be wrong, but the square headlights were an option in 78 and standard in 79. But I bought the truck like you see it, so if they were changed, I have no idea who changed them.
