I'm thinking it's gutted. Nothing on this truck is rusted through except the bedside. The underbody is solid. It probably got plugged so they hollowed it out. Willing to bed this is giving me the codes. Tempted to cut into the patch they did to see inside but then I'll be driving around with a loud exhaust system.
I plan on putting a new muffler on it, I just don't want it to sound like crap with a cut open cat lol. Here's the first angle of attack. The previous owner installed a set of 24lb injectors, the truck has 19lb injectors from the factory. While running live data, we can see that the o2 sensors are trying to adjust for a rich condition, short term fuel trim on one of the injectors is 99.2% which isn't right. Those new injectors probably require a tune to operate properly, not just an easy swap. Seems as though a few people on the web say the same thing. Heading back to the salvage yard tomorrow to grab 8 factory injectors, pulling the thing apart tonight.
Got some new stuff at the junk yard today. New speedo bezel coming tomorrow to replaced the busted one. Got lucky and found some literature too.
If I read the part number on the side of this injector correctly, these are Bosch 22lb injectors. Also found some more brittle vac lines.
Wow you getting serious On this resto. Best of luck on ya repairs Sounds like you have a good source on parts at the salvage yard. Galaxy S4 Cetane Powered Android
They've got tons of obs'! Pulled a PCM for the hell of it but it's not going to work, I'll just have to sell it. It's from a 96 but the truck had the I6. I was hoping the module could be flashed by the dealer if I needed it.
Got some work done on the truck. Cost me $80 at the salvage yard for injectors, $9.99/each. Thought it would be cheaper. Got all the aftermarket injectors pulled and the factory 19lbers installed. Just have to get some gasket sealant to put the manifold gasket on. Luckily, the felpro gasket kit I bought has almost all the gaskets I need, throttle body, IAC, intake manifold and head gaskets. Just need to pick up an egr gasket. Previous owner cut a gasket out of a mountain few can lol didn't even cut a hole in the gasket so the egr wouldn't flow. Took some time to clean the valve covers and manifold off with engine degreaser. Can't wait to get this thing running again.
Also found out the injectors that I'm taking out are for 88-89 Corvettes. 22lb/hr at 35psi and 24lb/hr at 45psi.
