Someone asked earlier so I figured I would show her off a bit . This is my second Raptor, I traded in my 2010 Tuxedo Black Raptor in December 2012 for this. that Icon suspension makes me drool what kind of gains do you get from that power steering reservoir?
I still don't get why it's called a boss? It's not like a boss 302 or 429 or an svt unit. Wierd that ford would use boss for something like that since its a coveted name. I know the 5.0 is a coyote an the 6.7 is scorpion, curious why they used it. No offense to you or anything but I find the 6.2 not worthy of the boss name imo
Since the Raptor shares the same steering rack and power steering pump from regular F-150s it is already under a lot of stress with the 35" tires. When you off-road hard the fluid tends to jostle around in the factory power steering reservoir creating aeration and the pump can actually go dry. Also, the system heats up and whines very easily. The RPG offroad reservoir has a larger capacity for fluid which helps control the heat *a little but most importantly inside of it there is a baffle with a small hole in the middle that keeps the fluid under it so it can't slosh around and get aerated/dry pump. There is another kit that integrates a radiator style power steering cooler which I am considering because the PS systems really do suck off-road. oh...and 15 HP
I think BOSS has just been synonymous with Ford performance for a lot of years and there was a lot of hype around this new 6.2. As you can see from the article I linked they were going to originally call it the Hurricane until Katrina hit they changed it to BOSS 379
Yea just interesting because previously any boss motor went into a car with that designation, ie boss 302 was the motor an the car.
right, I was a little confused myself. But trust me...it's worth the BOSS name LOL! With just my bolt on mods and a tuner I can do 0-60 in about 6 seconds. Not bad for a 6000lb truck on 35s! Here's a vid I made Ford Raptor 0-60 - YouTube
