I have a 5.8 f250. I had to change the fuel pump in the front no biggy. As well changed the plugs and wires. Brought it to my mechanic due to I have a phantom check engine light that comes on and off randomly while driving. She don't idle rough at all. My mechanic read it and said it was the egr. So I changed it. And no help. Check engine still shows up and disappears. Also I don't know if it's just me but my truck has a slow acceleration. Well compared to videos I watchrd on YouTube. But she will go up to 90 no problems just slow? I know the transmission kicks out of first but that's about it. Any pointers?

Maybe it's the dpfe sensor on the EGR circuit?
Did the mechanic specifically say EGR valve or just a general EGR code?

Well, on my Contour, I got EGR codes and had the valve changed like you did. It didn't help one bit.

What it really was, was a carbon plugged plenum (intake manifold). Removed it, cleaned it, no problems after that. Better acceleration and fuel economy too.

So I'd say you have carbon buildup choking the passages.
