make sure the terminal for the alternator is hooked up right i would hope the alternator is new. could have it checked at a local auto part store.

    stay safe man. nasty storm.

what are your exact symptoms? is the truck dying shortly after turning it on? what is battery voltage at idle?

what exactly do you mean running off battery? These trucks now a days need the battery in it to run. It's not like it use to be and all you need the battery for was to start the car.

Well I have to jump the car and while started the more electric things on such as headlights the lower the idle is and as soon as I shut it off it dies and won't start again

That's not good. I think there is a crossed wire somewhere because it's draining the battery way too fast.

I would start with the battery end first follow the positive (+) first an make sure none of those go to the frame or negative (-). Also check the connections at the alternator and make sure they are going to the right places. I would get a haynes manual and check the truck against that.
