I am pondering on buying a Ford Excursion. Look for a 2003 - 2005 diesel. Help me out and see what is out there.

Sure you want a 6.0? Great motors if you bulletproof but if you're not really looking to mod it a 7.3 will have much lower chances of getting one with problems.

If you do go 6.0 I would try to get one that's at least had head gaskets and studs done. There are plenty of 6.0s out there that run forever without any issues that haven't had any of the bulletproofing done, just saying, 7.3s aren't known to be lemons.

What mileage range are you looking in?

SDs had 7.3s from 99-03.5 I would assume excursions we're the same, at least 03 for sure. I'm also pretty sure that excursions never got the coil spring upgrade either.

Yea, 7.3 came in 2000 - 03. The 6.0s came in 04 - 05. Yea, there is a risk with the 6.0s that could have head gasket issues, EGR cooler and oil cooler issues. I just don't want to go to old and I think I could live with a 03 with a 7.3, but it would have to be in nice condition.

Are you trying to stay away from the v10? I definitely would suggest test driving a 3v v10 if they came in the excursion.

For sure leave the 2v v10s alone though..
