So I was searching a while back on a way to bypass that stupid mechanism in our headlight knob for the foglights. As some of you know, your foglights could only be ran with headlights on low beam. On high beam they would turn off and with the parking lights they would turn off. Well thanks to some google searching and f150net I found this link. http://www.svtlightnings.com/svt/how-to/foglamps/foglamps.htm It's very easy to do. I chose to have my foglights on with all settings. IE Parking lights, lowbeam and high beam by splicing #5 (yellow) and #12 (Brown). To get your heaflight switch out just use a flathead screwdriver and pry on the left side a little, it will pop right out.
And here is a link for the 97-99 trucks http://www.f150online.com/forums/articles-how-tos/402741-99-f-150-headlight-switch-mod.html
#5 yellow and #12 brown spliced together. 1999-2003 F250 the #5 wire is white w black. Every fog light harness we ran on over 25,000 units converted (1995-2000 Ford, Dodge and Chevy) at the chassis up-fitter had to have the DOT high beam interruption for fog lights. High beams on = fog lights off. Just saying, bypassing this function could result in a written courtesy warning or ticket from a law enforcement department for both fogs and high beams being on at the same time. Diagram is how to add a relay to aftermarket fog light harnesses for DOT compliance. Import vehicle wiring may be reversed polarity, check with test meter/safety tester. Uploaded with ImageShack.us
But, on that note. You shouldn't have your high beams on when there is oncoming traffic anyways. But yes, he is right.
also you can take the switch apart if you have auto lights you can cut the plastic mold away so you can have your fog lights on with your auto lights.
