I recently looked at a f250 w/ 6.0 and the dealer couldnt tell me if the head studs had been upgraded etc. So I left and never looked back b/c I know how bad a rep these engines have. Well I was tellin a buddy i dont see much about it and hes said he went to school for them motors. Hes a mechanic for the state dept.

Heres what he told me was the main problem with the 6.0

The coolants get hotter than they should due to all the extra egr heat and other tuff driving conditions, programmers, etc. He said that it breaks down the coolant and it begins to gel up and start to clog up the radiator/egr cooler. Which leads to the overheating and blown head gaskets. In order to keep things right he said you need to change the coolant ever 3-4 oil changes. He also said instead of changin the oil every 5000 miles that now they saying every 3000 on them motors. If you idle alot your burning up oil like mileage does. Not as bad but it adds up. He has a formula to convert idle time to mileage but he didnt tell me how to do it.

Maybe this will help some of you 6.0 owners. It makes since to me but the oil change every 3k will eat up some serious cash.

I already do an oil change every 3000 miles anyways, that was what has been pounded into my brain ever since birth and I just cant bring myself to go very far past 3000 miles without an oil change

Dont look like no time soon, im gonna pass on the trade for the one i posted on here. It was lil to ruff around the edges. Always got my eye out for a 7.3 or 5.9 cummins. Just a matter of $$$$ most time.

What oil change you know for a gasser costs $15.00?Mine is usually around $50-55.N my 7.3 TD,more like $100-110.lol.

I would mind haveng a 6.0 TD.As there are plenty in my area going for like 8k-15k.And i mean plenty of them. One dealership has 9 of them, another one,17 of them.N there always looking to wheel N deal those out.But no one wants them because of the bad rep the 6.0's get. There are even a few 6.0 dually's here at Hiller Ford. Most of the dealerships by me that have them end up sending them to auctions to be sold.
