yeah man, I've got the tools and know how to regear axles so I'll share... Just sucks cuz there's a 500 mile break in and then ya gotta change the gear oil all while not driving more than 30 min for heating and cooling cycles so if ya drive far it's an even longer ride home to break er in properly
yeah and ya don't wanna mess around with that... If the gear oil heats up too much through the break-in (bearings working from thier preload to thier sweet spots, gears meshing and matching/wearing together) which creates some substantial heat, the oil will break down and the components will have no protection and it most likley will result in failure. That'd suck! haha
Yup!! you are also not supposed to tow for the first 500... and when you do it's the same with heating and cooling cycles and a tow break-in Now I've only heard of one dealer telling people about towing with a brand new truck... do they change your fluid with routine maintenance or do they somehow break-in the gear sets at the factory? Idk

I could make that work, but the $ you'd spend on fuel might not be worth it... Idk where you're from... essentially they're the same axles except the 04-08s used a spacer under the crush sleeve on the pinion shaft. These installs are easy on our axles or any axle for that matter and I don't know why people are so scared to do it. I could walk ya through it if you would like to do it yourself. there are precision settings and if you take your time and meet the specs you will have no problems
