Ya. I got a 4.6, would like something better than open rear if I can afford it and may one day be on 38s especially if I got gears that will handle them. I use the truck for 90% mall crawlin, but I have taken it off road afew times. J.Wal
I was looking at ebay. I dunno how much a new one would be, probly in the 3-400 range. I'm going off what will said earlier, I believe the 04+ trucks have a 31 axle, the earlier ones had 28s. I can't remember if the 8.8 has a ratio split or not, some axles have a different carrier for different ranges of gears, I know a dana 60 for example has different carriers for >4.10>.
sorry, but not reading 8 pages... not all trucks are 31. my truck is actually a 28 (4.6 w/ the 8.8). pull your axle tag and call ford, they will tell you exactly whats in your diff. as far as gears go, here is the rule of thumb to determine your gears: (New Tires DIVIDED BY Oem Tires) TIMES Oem R&P = New R&P Example of my truck: (35/30)*3.73=4.35 which is why i am rolling a 4.30 Ford R&P. Your truck: (35/32)*3.73= 4.08 so the 4.10 would be perfect for now. BUT... if you go to 38's (38/32)*3.73= 4.42 so the 4.56 would actually be a bigger gear, equating to a final drive of approx 3.85. Just keep in mind if you gear for 38's, you'll be way out the band and will be a pig to gas.
I don't think he'll be too bad with 4.56s on 35s, I would need 4.63s with 35s to get back to my stock 4.10s. He'll still be turning fewer rpms than me
But u also gotta look at the weight of 30 inch tires vs 35 inch tires. And jwal im pretty sure u DO NOT have an open diff. Sent from my SCH-I500 using Tapatalk
I'm going with 4:30s for my 2wd. 4:30 yukon with lockers ftw. Be able to roast my tires if I wanted to. Lol
thats what i have in my truck. i went w/ ford parts though. and it is nice. i'm able to break lose these 35's w/ no problem. you are gonna love them!
Hell yea, My 22s have nitto tires and there sticky so it's hard to break them loose. I was thinking about going with 4:10s but i want that get up and go. Lol vano is your truck a 4x2? And 5.4?
If ya ever plan on supercharging go with 4.10s if ya city drive mostly go for 4.56s Sent from my SCH-I500 using Tapatalk
