well what is your reasoning for doing the SAS? I don't see why if your not going to do much offroading with it. I would save the cash and buy me an offroad rig.
i didnt say a SAS. i'm lookin for an axle that will take a 4.30 since that is what i have in my rear. the dana 60 just came to mind after googling gears. but that is a SAS job. the dana 50 (as discussed) is the IFS front axle on Excursions, however I am not sure if it would mate up right w/ my truck. I can get wheel spacers to cover the 8 bolt hub to our 6x135 pattern so thats not a concern. If i'm going to be dropping $4k+ for a 4wd conversion though, i'd just put that down on a new 4x4 w/6.5' bed. I love my truck, and wouldnt even think of trading her out for a new rig. I was thinking I could "make" a front axle from a rear 8.8. if you flip it then mount it, then it would be reverse w/out needing a reverse cut gear, but thats some fabbing I wouldnt want to take on. guess i'll be saving for a new rig next summer.
i just went to a junkyard in pasadena and they had a few wrecked 4x4 04-08's you could just use those as donor trucks and get transfercase, driveshafts, front axles and such
thats the plan... but it aint gonna happen if i cant find a 4.30 option for the front which is what this thread is trying to determine. i just aint happy w/ replacing my gears when there isnt anything wrong w/ them ya know? guess somethings got to give so it might as be the gears.
I know you can get 4.10s in the front, but 4.30 is just kinda a weird ratio. I bet you could find a wrecked F150 with the 9.75, pull it yourself, and get 4.10s with a locker. Then sell your 8.8 to someone with all your goodies and maybe break even.
i'd just regear my current 8.8 cuz i have an Auburn AutoCROSS diff and I ain't gettin rid of that. $500 locker right there. Guess I'll just have to go to 4.10's then or just buy a new truck. Thanks for the input guys.
