new member here. im looking to do hid upgrades on hl and fl . im sure many here have already done so . i could use some info on what are the better kits-brands to get or say what not to get. and then resistors, cancellors is all that needed? i have aftermarket headlamps, which have a seperate high and low beam bulb. i could use info on what brand and where to get, and what (k) to use. any help is appreciated. thanks
im runnin 10k hids in my truck ..... i bought my heads for $50 and my fogs for $35 .... i dont have all the resistors and crap on mine either ....
i have stock lights and my truck shop just intalled new bulbs and the ballast...pretty hassle free. same for the foglites. they are both 6k and i paid about 400 for the headlights and 160 for the fogs
Im running ebay HIDS. I have 0 issues with them. Paid 50 for head and 35 for fogs. You dont need all the bs crap. 5k is the brightest you can get which is what I have. Since you are running aftermarket heads, I think thats a h3 bulb for the heads.
Between 4300-5000k is the brightest you can go with the most useable light. Any higher and they start to get more blue and have less useable light. Beyond 10000k gets purple and really should be used for show only. There is a mustang here with red headlights. I can't see how they see with those.
To properly integrate HID lighting, you will need to install some projectors into the headlights via a retro-fit. It is not hard to do, just takes a little time and use of tools. Results are fantastic...you will have the most useable light without the glaring ricer crap of the plug/play HID kits a lot of people use in their trucks. Check out theretrofitsource.com for the highest quality retro-fit parts and HID materials. And as mentioned, stick to 5000k or 4300k. Anything higher and you significantly lose output and driving in fowl weather is horrific. By 6000k you've already lost nearly 20% of your light output. By 10,000k you are barely more than stock halogen output.
Most Halogen high beams are ~65w and put out around 1700 lumens of light. 10000k 35w HID will put out around 2000 lumens. The cheaper quality stuff would probably be less even less.
