idk Will I guess I got caught up thinking wrong. You know when you stick your hand out the window and the air feels cooler than when your at a stand still? I forgot that the air is not actually cooler its just because its moving that makes it feel cooler.
Ive seen mine the same temp as outside. Normally it's 5-8 degrees hotter than outside temp tho. Idling it rises quite a bit. Stock airbox with k&n filter
This is from a post I did over at f150online. Whipple Custom CAI (PICS) - Page 3 - F150online Forums I built a CAI for my Whipple since I hated the one that come with the kit. Here are the test results. As you can see under hood temps are quite high when your sitting. When you consider the fact that the fan is pulling air through a 190 degree radiator and blowing it under the hood you can really appreciate the need to pull air from another source. The temp variations you guys are seeing are just heat soak. The only way to make your intake temps the same as outside would be to insulate the ducting. And for 1-15degrees difference which is what most will see it's just not worth it. According to Kenne Bell every 10 degrees is worth 1%hp. So here are my test results. Drove the truck for a total of 14 miles. First 10 were city the last 4 were highway. Pulled in the driveway and never shut her down. Then I popped the hood and set them in place. One lying on top of the MAF as close to the box as possible and the other inside the box. I closed the hood and let her idle for 12 mins them popped the hood removed the airbox cover and the results are beyond my wildest dreams. 51 degrees different. If I were to insulate the box and put a gasket on the lid it would probably be even better. Either way I'm very satisfied!!!!
^^ very cool. So from what I am seeing, your still pulling air from the fender and you got 2 in the front is that pulling from in front of the radiator or down below?
Thats correct. Used the hole in the fender which is what the factory does as well as Whipple. Then I ran a duct down by the fog light and one in front of the radiator. Total of 3 4" inlets. I just got my hands on some black foam insulating material and I will be doing this test again to see if it helps with heat soak. The box does well as you can see I just want to know if it can be better.
yea i was told my k&n cai was doing no good because all it was doing was sucking in hot air from the motor, so i'm gonna build a custom airbox to go around it, insulate it, and sooner or later hook up some sort of ram air to it
^^haha i dont plan on water that deep, if i manage that deep the cab will be full too haha that and it would probly look goofy without a lift
