Yeah exactly drill holes only in the bottom on the ends and then drill a hole straight through where you wanted the lights and make the bottom hole big enough to get the socket in... and are you projecting the lights forward or backward, for angles reasons
Here's one you may want a bigger height though, I would just run by Lowe's, Home Depot, Ace Hardware, etc... and see what they have
homedepot sells 36" square stainless tubing for $15. i just wonder if its going to look tacky. thats what im worried about.

No, use flat steel that's about 1/8 thick. Weld 2 l shaped pieces on the end for mourning tabs to the cap. Drill 4 holes to mount lights.
