I read thru this, and form what im gathering, your trying to put lights on your shell? I was toying with the same idea, but a full roof rack. And never got to it lol. Will be nice to see what you come up with
it says the wall thickness is 0.125" that seems pretty thin to me yep thats exactly what im trying to do. id like to get an actual roof rack but they cost close to $200 or more.
heres the piece i found. the other thing i like about aluminum is it doesnt rust even though i will be painting this. Amazon.com: Aluminum 6061-T6511 Square Tubing, 4"x4", 0.125" Wall, 36" Length: Industrial & Scientific
I think you should by a roof rack like the whole thing thats made to cover the roof of your truck but just put it on your shell there, and reinforce the shell a little throw a spare 35 up there hi-lift jack up there and 4-5 kc lights yah nah were talking lol.
**** yea! thats what i wanted to do. ive got my spare 35 in my bed but i wanted a roof rack with some hellas or kcs mounted on it and i saw one of thos hi lift jacks. theyre friggin sweet. i just dont have the money to throw into a rack right now. i talked to our mechanic at work today and hes guna see if hes got a piece of steel for me. i was looking for a 4" piece but im thinking thats too big. he had a 12" piece of steel laying around the shot that was 1 1/2" round. i think that will work perfectly. just gotta wait to hear back from him and then i can get this underway. going to have to buy some new hellas too for my grill since im taking my 700s out and putting them on the roof, Im sure those 500s will fit much better behind my grill and i will be able to aim them a little better. the way im thinking my spacing with a 35" piece of steel i can fit 6 7" lights up top.
I'll let you borrow some money from my money tree , but yah i bet those 500's will fit much better, i dont see how you got the 700's to fit in the first place lol
ive got the money for one i just dont want to spend it on that. the end of my work season is coming here in the next 2 months so im trying to save what i can for winter. (if i need it. i get unemployment till we start back up in april. just not sure how much $$$ i will be getting) idk how i got the 700s in either but i did lol. i can aim them up high enough to get good light output. plus theyre freeform lights so theyre more focused.
