I'm installing another Recon light bar. The old one broke and I upgraded to the Xtreme this time. This one needs a 12v 'hot' constant wire. The instructions suggest the ignition or accessory wire, located somewhere on the drivers side. Where exactly do I find these wires, or, any other suggestions as to which wires I can tap into?
The ignition wire would be a good one to tap into. You can find it under your steering column. Just take off the panel and if I'm not mistaken I should be a blue wire with a green line. I can look tomorrow for ya. Sent from my iSmarty 4
Is it a taillight bar? I'd check your trailer 7 pin and see what you have. What do you need the ignition power for?
Use the wires back there in the pigtail. I wouldn't bother with any of the wires inside the truck. The lightbar I had tapped into the trailer connector. Took less then 10 minutes to properly wire.
That's how most are, this one doesn't, unless I'm missing something. The standard light bars tap into or plug into your trailer connector. This one does that, but also requires a wire run to a reverse light and a wire run to a 12v hot. I'll look around for a wire matching that description tomorrow, though, I'm not sure which panel you are talking about.
I'll check it out. I've never used or even really looked at the 7pin before. My dad wired a 4 pin in back when I got the truck and that's all I've ever used. Every trailer I've towed uses the 4 pin.
So black would be my constant that I could tap into correct? Looks like I do still have to run a wire up to a reverse light but that's easy.
