I would run 4-5 lbs before i did a rebuild of the bottom end. doesnt sound like alot, but you'd prolly gain around 80HP from that.

If you plan to eventually rebuild your engine to run higher boost, i would go w/ a GT4088R. If you only want to run minimal boost but still get power, i would recommend GT3788R. Then its just a matter of picking the right A/R to match your driving style.

i dont claim to know it all, just relaying the knowledge i have gained over the years. mind you, i have been comtemplating a turbo build on my 4.6 for the past 4 yrs, and even went as far as buying my turbo (but sold it 2 yrs ago). i will be twin turboing my 7.4L 454 (if it doesnt sell).

Oh, i did read it. But i figured it would be common sense when you read what people post. Why bother running boost if its only minimal? Do it right the first time, and you wont have major issues. But again, i guess if anyone in the world used common sense on a regular basis. The world would be a much more dangerous place.

I know but it went from performance for a 4.2 to "what turbo fits my engine" and what not. It became an entirely different subject which means it should get its own thread.

turbo alone would run you about 700-1100, depending on model, but you would need wastegate, blow off valve, tubing, tuner, minimum 42lb injectors, so figure spending any where from 2-3k for a complete DIY kit. it will be on the lower end if you do most of the work of course.
