I have mine because I don't like how an open bed looks. I prefer mine covered.

I use mine to keep shat covered up and dry too. I noticed a little better mpg, but my 8ft ass has a lot more drag than most regular trucks :jester:

goin back to the "swirl" effect... that kind of makes sense. if you have noticed over the years, even though the interior of the box has always been square, the outside is not. The outer width of the bed is actually widest at the cab and tapers in on both sides a bit as you get towards the tailgate. this would cause the air to curl around the truck, and bed top possibly, rather than just blowin along side of it like the 95 & down beds. but then again, this is just my hypothesis.

Possible along the sides. The swirl they were talking about earlier is inside the bed. Air coming over the cab dips down into the bed, hits the tailgate and rolls back up to the cab, where it rolls back down and back to the tailgate again and repeats. That rolling ball of air eventually forces the rest of the air coming over the cab over the top of the ball, sort of like what a topper would do.

That was an interesting Mythbusters show, especially when they went to the wind tunnel.

When I was in college, I commuted for years with the tailgate off of my truck thinking that it was saving me gas.

I like it because it keeps my stuff dry and out of sight of thieves. Only reason to get one. I wouldn't get the snap kind they are a b!tch in the winter to put back on if you have to take it off.

I had one on my lifted scab. Most useless and ineffective thing I have ever owned. Tried to sell it, no one wanted it, I had no where to store it so I left it on. Can't fit anything taller than like 3 feet in the bed. I could see how the fold up locking tonneaus would be nice, but the hard tops suck IMO. If you use the truck as a truck just get a canopy they're so much more practical, if you use it as an oversized minivan the toneau works great for groceries. I will never own a hard toneau again. Just my opinion.

I drove with it on and with it off and noticed absolutely no difference in mileage.

I have a hard top on mine. I have a love hate relationship with it. I don't put a lot in my truck but when I want to its s pain in the butt if it's too big and the cover won't close. On the other hand my bed has no liner and it keeps it covered I also have my stock exhaust still in there and a tool box and no one can see it. It's also been great when I go out and it's sunny it's great for shade. Other than that it's useless. It's a pain for my short self to clean and close once it's been opened. I don't reach so my dad bought me step for my hitch that use. The mpgs still suck I'm lucky if I get 13 on a good week. It came on the truck when I bought it so I hadn't take it off, if it wasn't already there I never would've bought one.

if you are only getting 13mpg my dear, you are doing 1 of 2 things wrong: you either need a tune, or you need to stop speeding w/ the lead foot. i get 17.4mpg on 28.5 mixed driving. and cant you hear that exhaust clanking around back there? that would drive me NUTS if you could.

    13! :mfr_omg:

I agree on the exhaust... I hope your bed was already scratched up because if you don't have a liner.. it is now.
