My AC Issues

    I'm sure I have a thread someplace, but lets start a new one since I'm bout to tear into it this weekend and next.

    So basically I think I have a bad seal at the compressor housing. My deduction: Everytime I put R134a in, it will "blow off" after a few minutes (about the time it takes to cycle through the system). Now, there are no obvious holes in the line. The blow off is vertical, so I am guessing that the seal coming OUT OF the compressor is bad.

    Now, I have a spare compressor I bought a few years ago wrapped up and in the garage. I was going to just swap compressors (mine has 140k on it, this new one has 40k). I guess it would be safe to assume the seals (if any) on the new one would be bad as well since its been in the garage (even though its been wrapped up and sealed). Where do I go to get the new seals? Do I HAVE to go to Ford or do you think a DIY store would have them? I'll also be replacing my accumulator since I'll be opening up the system (no freon in the system currently so no need to pay for disposal).

    buy a new compressor...that way you know all the seals are good and you have a warranty

    if i wanted to spend $300 I wouldnt have posted up here.

    I found the compressor for my truck on amazon for 105 shipped.. Might not be expensive as you think..

    when i checked i thought i saw compressor seals were $38 or something. did I look at the wrong seal?

    no I looked up my truck. Although I didn't think there would be a big price difference between our trucks they are the same gen.

    you rock bro! i was just "googling" gauges and $55 is the best by far. Appreciate the tips everyone!

    and you were right Nick, $17. who knows what i was lookin at :batman2:

    Ordered my seals and my new drier (thats what i saw was $38 Nick). I'll be going to harbor freight on my way home to pick up a gauge set and go from there. Thanks all. I'll keep posting as I work this out, in case others have AC issues since my Haynes says "See Dealer for AC Repair" :facepalm:
