Curious as to why my Edge Evo does this?

this is absolutely the problem. the Edge Evo's are real finicky about what octane on what setting. I remember goin to the track one day and just switchin it to 93 even though I had 87 and the truck felt like it was gonna blow UP when I gave it gas, tryin SOOOO hard to be in the new settings timing range but under the old lame 87 octane. switch your truck back to Trans Only, run that tank out, then switch it back and you should be fine. I also bump up my idle RPM to atleast 700, but thats just me. and remember, a shudder is the engine, a shake is the trans. sounds like your trans is holding up just fine for 176k.

The manual says 87 or higher for level two, and a quick google search agreed. I can't remember if I tried level 1 with adjusted shifting or not but I can always change it real quick.

Ah, that's what I was fearing. Makes sense. Just trying to delay the inevitable. I wonder if that also explains the shaking at idle, while in drive, but stopped at a red light. I have checked and cleaned all the usual causes for that to no avail.

I'm looking at getting it rebuilt before winter hits because I don't want it going out the first time I try to tow sleds through the mountains. Really can't afford it though.

I honestly couldn't tell you the difference in feel between an engine shudder and a trans shake, but OD temporarily quit working for me the other day and the shudder/shake whatever seems to only happen in 3rd gear. Usually while going uphill but I have gotten it on flat ground a couple of times recently.

Transmission shop wants $3-4k to do rebuild with I think he said a clutch pack and mild shift kit.

    Someone, kill me now.

Think I'll have them change the filter and fluid next week, and check for anything obvious in the pan.

^^and that's providing all the "hard parts" (im assuming those would be things like the gears) are still okay.

if you put 89 in, you'd feel even more of a kick.

yea 3-4k sounds like a raping, but maybe its different way up there. I bet you could buy a reman down here, have it shipped, and install yourself for under the $3k your shop is tellin you.
