That article is talking about GM. I'm assuming they are bringing the S-10/Colorado/whatever back to up their overall fuel rating. These companies do that crap all of the time. They produce vehicles that get great mileage but nobody wants just to meet their government mandated fuel mileage average.

a lot of people build prerunner rangers b/c theyre cheap...that would be a fugly prerunner with that body

but is it dirt cheap? thats the problem they had with the ranger series, it was too expensive, for the price for a nice one you could buy a slightly older 150 fully loaded

They've scratched the F-100. The F-150 is the smallest truck Ford plans on building in the foreseeable future. There's no way Ford would compete against it's biggest seller. I read an article about this a while back. The F-100 is a dead deal for now.

That said, I do foresee the F-150 getting smaller then it currently is in the future. The 11th gen 150's were the beginning of the "bigger is better" mentality Ford went through in the mid 2000's. Yes, the 12th gen is still a large sized truck, but there's no way in hell they can achieve the CAFE laws requirements with a brick for the basic design. The future of the F-150 will have to be a more aerodynamic style then the past two generations have been.

I trust Ford to keep the F-150 the best looking truck in it's class, plain and simple.

Even though its not going to be a reality, at least not now, I don't consider it a real truck if it's front wheel drive. That front end look familiar?
