I'm sure it would have never been FWD. That's just a rendering some tool created to get Ford's fanboys panties in a wad. :jester:

I dunno man, the explorer is now a front wheel drive primary, as is the honda ridgeline, so there are others out there.

Well the Ridgeline has NEVER been considered a real truck by the masses. And from a Honda point of view, it's the least successful of all of their vehicles. The new Explorer makes sense to be FWD, as most Explorer owners never take their Explorers off road or tow anything of substantial size. So I can understand Ford making the Explorer a FWD crossover, more then the Ranger based Explorer of the past. Most people just want their SUV's to haul little Johnny and Jane to school, trips etc. Ford just made the Explorer more user friendly to the masses. As far as Ford trying to push a FWD F-100 to a truck market would have been unlikely, not impossible, but highly unlikely.

For the record, I LOVE the new Explorers personally. They look the best they've ever looking IMO. :peace: I know FWD isn't appealing to everyone, but if I were in the market for a vehicle like the Explorer, I'd buy one in a flash with no second thought.

I think the government is trying to control us WAY to much i sure hope something changes soon....as for the FWD i think for a family vehicle its fine the explorer is a perfect match cause typically you find women driving them like said to take kids to school and theres no doubt they are a lot easier to control with the distractions of kids in the back seat, imagine how much better they will drive in icy conditions or even wet traction for that mater. I like that deffinately cause i wouldn't consider my wife a good enough driver to handle a corner drifting the rear tires, i can and several of you guys probobly can but i know my wife couldn't. Thank you years of mudding in 2wd lessons of life never took out a tree (in the mud) lol.....

Yeah, fwd is good for a family vehicle. Our front wheel drive escape does way better in snowy conditions than my truck... Until i lock up the hubs and put it in 4 ha ha. For me it wasnt so much the mudding (I did a shat ton of that), it was drifting corners in the rain Ba ha. Actually a couple days ago it rained for the first time in over a month here, just a little shower but the roads were slicker than shat, the back end got away from me, but I just rode I out like no ones business ha ha. Caught me off guard but I knew what was up, but I couldn't see my wife being able to ride that out, she's had nothing but fwd cars.
It was a sight, a 21 foot crew can truck riding out a curve like Tokyo drift Ba ha. It was fun, I try not to do that because I am now aware how much tires cost, learned that lesson ha ha.
But IMHO, the ford SUVs are turning more into crossovers, more car than suv. I sat inthe new escape and I was disappointed. I was trying to talk my wife into one. Awd, 2.0 Ecoboost, completely redesigned. But the backseat feels like a fuggin hatchback. If I wanted a hatchback I'd buy a damn Subaru. I'm looking into the. Newer expos or the edges now. Im either going with a bigger "almost suv" or full on crossover.

We are 2 years into our first and we are planning for a possible second. The escape is just getting a little too old, and a tad too small. The new ones are even smaller. I'd like to get her a newer sport trac, after the switched from ranger based to explorer based, but it's "a truck" in her opinion. I'd love for her to be into getting a truck, but that's not her thing.
