Just to make you feel better, i replaced my whole cooling system (Hoses, fluid, reservoir, thermostat) Before i realized my head gasket was bad. Similar situation to yours and after i pulled the heads and rebuild the top end, i know my engine will run great for another 100k because i know what it looks like inside, nice and clean. So yes it sucks, but it couldve been worse right? Good luck on the rebuild and keep us updated!!
I will keep this updated. I know once the motors rebuilt it will run another 200K or more so its actually probably a good thing i had to rebuild it. Wont have to look for another truck for a while lol
Well just got back inside. All thats left are exhaust manifolds, motor mounts and trans to engine bolts. Ready for this to be out to go over it and see how much it actually needs done and get to work on it.
**** man, if youve got the money just get some new pistons all around. i mean how often do people pull their engines? why just fix one thing you know what i mean? the engine has wear on it and some damage to one piston, that you know of so far. what happens if you get it all back together and 1k more miles you get the same problem on a different cylinder? lol just saying. probably what i would do. check all rings and seals. all the good stuff.
No no no I AM replacing ALL pistons and rings lol Im talking about inspecting bearings and stuff like that. The truck has 209k on it so it probably would benefit from a full rebuild.
I dont have the heads off yet. Pulling them AFTER the motor is out. Trying to work with the timing chains and guides while its in the truck is not an easy feat
Still in the process of pulling the motor. Between having back issues again all the sudden and rides with my Harley buddies I havent gotten much done. Trying to figure out how to get the pass. side trans bolts out.
