Well noticed after i registered you guys don`t have a section for us big fellas, the true day in day out workhorses, F450`s and F550`s. No worries though. :birgits_tiredcoffee

I have a simple question about the pesky factory DPF system that plagues us so badly. I know i`m in for large gains by tuning and removing this system, especially on a F250-or F350, but does anyone know what mileage gains i would get from this change? the trucks weights 16k #`s day in a day out, has agressive tires and is shaped like a brick house and don`t forget has 4.88 gears :baby:. i get a solid 8mpgs since day one, i have about 25k miles on it right now, i would dream of getting a spartan tuner but its alot of $$$ the boss probly won`t pay for, any other affordable options with documented results with similar vehicles? :hmm:

i dont know much about the 6.4s but i know my 6.0 with the bully dog tripple dog tuner will scream and i absolutely love the outlook monitor it come with i can keep up with my coolant temps and trans temps, boost, and all sorts of stuff even set defuel temps so i dont burn the truck up. and i put a banks cold air intake and it helped my power and i got a extra mile a gallon with it. i had a egr delete put on right after i got it so i supposedly wouldn blow a head gasket but i ended up blowin one pushin all that extra power so now i got the head studs installed. and straight piping the truck helped some too especially with EGT's

well i had two 05`s with the 6.0l the first one was a F350 with an 11ft service body, i had a straight pipe stack and a drop in air filter, with a superchips flashpaq i`d gain 3mpg if driven nicely on the 120hp setting.

my second 05 was a f450 with 4.88 gears, i only gained 2mpg, but only with a cat delete and muffler swap, no intake changes.

however fun it was i blew 3 egrs and 3 sets head gaskets in the first and 2 egrs and 2 sets head gaskets in the second, wish i learnt about the arp studs sooner! lol

even with the last truck i could get 13mpg at best with all highway and light pedal driving.

what my ears would like to hear is a solid 3-5mpg gain ditching the DPF and getting a tune. :waytogo:

i mainly want some solid numbers to show the boss and say, okay with this increase in mileage your gonna save tons of fuel costs, it would be a better sell with some hard numbers.:drink_nl:

A lot of diesel guys I have talked to regarding the DPF delete (I am looking to buy a diesel and researching everything) say that if you get a damn good tune, you can easily gain 3mpgs, and thats even when they are loaded out, & lifted. I have no personal proof, just hear say from others that I have talked to.

after i got the head studs installed a few weeks later the HPOP messed up but there is a valve in it that can be replaced instead of the whole thing so i had my local shop fix that for about 500 bucks instead of a whole new HPOP. i hear all sorts of good talk about SCT custom tunes i would love to have one of those but will stick with what i have for now. my 05 gets between 11 and 12 i wish i could get at least 15 but its alright you pay to play. I could kick myself for sellin my 03 F350 one of the last 7.3's with only 86k miles on it it got 19mpg around town and i got 26 with the cruise on 70 headed to t town.

I don't know about the SCT Diesel tuners, but my SF3 for my 4.6 is the cat's meow. Way better than my Evo, and it really is user friendly for the novice tuner. I can tune 5 different vehicles on here as well. Even has data logging w/ USB connect. I'm stuck on SCT for life.
