Tire question. Don't worry, it's not "will they fit?"

I never really thought about it before, but the other day I went to measure my tires that I got a year and a half ago. they're 305/70's. Which if i'm right equals to a 33x10.50 tire. Well I measured them the other day for a completely different reason and the things barely hit 31". They've not worn nearly at all yet being the truck just sat in the driveway the better part of a year with all the suspension issues. So my question I guess is, do tires commonly not meet the actual size they're rated to, or did I get stiffed here?

i am assuming you have 17's as the rim size is needed to complete the calculation. w/ that assumed, your tire should measure 33.8. Now when I purchased my 35x12.5x20 they were under 35, when I was measuring on the truck. The weight of the truck will play a bit of a factor in the height of the tire, but I dont think it should have you off by almost 2inches.

also, what brand of tire is it? that may make a difference.

    It's actually a 16 inch rim, and they're Mickey Thompson ATZ's

It was about the biggest tire that would fit on the stock rims. I'm not into the whole flashy rim scene so I had no plans on changing them...I wanted a different tire but nothing was big enough and would fit the rims

305/70/16 is actually a 32.8" tire, and you are measuring 31, so I would have to lean that you are prolly about right w/ the weight. My 35x12.5x20 were MT ATZ as well, and they didnt measure up to the 35" height, both on and off the truck. Its the Mickey Thompson

Man you do realize not all aftermarket wheels are super blingy and overpriced. You can get some really nice wheels out there for a great price. And they will really improve the look of your truck.

Yea, I mean i've found some that look alright, one of them actually being what I think your running, those dick cepek wheels. I'm just at the point with this particular truck where I don't feel like pouring money into it for sheer looks anymore. This trucks so beat up and scratched up it'll take more than some rims to bring it back haha.
On that note though, if I ever did put some on, I really like the ATX Artillery. They got them in a 16"x9" size with -12 offset. I know nothing about offset but that would run right with my lift and setup right?

thats how my last truck was. all of a sudden things started to fall out on her. first the O2, then the cats were bad, then I cracked the bell off my exhaust header almost and after that I was done... Traded in the truck. I STILL miss that damn truck. she was good to me. far better than I was to her at times. but i couldnt put money into a truck just for looks, or enough parts/mo to equal a monthly note.
