I just got my truck a few weeks ago, and this is the first Ford I've owned. Just wanted to know how I can fix this:

It's currently in park, and with this problem I can't shift all the way to 1. It's a 1999 Ford F250, if that helps any. Any advice is appreciated

It's up under the steering column. It's a little white wheel you turn to adjust the cable. Pop the fuse panel off under the steering column (the big panel with the four pins), you might have to contort a bit to look up in there. It's easy though. Ill try to find a pic.

The white box there is your ignition switch, this pic looks like its taken at an angle so the little wheel should be above the ignition switch.

I just crawled through everything under there a few weeks ago because the splined pin the hold my gear selector fell out, the gear select wouldn't stay on the right spot and my neutral safety switch wasn't registering the truck being in park or neutral. Took me 2 days and dozens of cuts and scrapes on my hands to figure it out. I have a map of everything down there burned into my brain now, not by choice ha ha!

So I found your wheel, and turned it back all the way. The shifter still has about an inch of play, and this silver thing next to the white box wiggles a lot. Should I tighten it up? It's the only things that moves when I jiggle the shifter.

Yes, tighten those, it's a common problem.

So I tightened everything I could, and it's still wiggling. I couldn't find what the silver box connects to, so I may just have to live with the slack.

I had this issue, I had to replace the whole shift cable. It was screwed up down where it connects to the trans.

Yeah, it's loose down there as well. It's not a big problem right yet, though.
