4v is probably the wise choice

Got some money to spend on my engine now but I'm getting a headache from trying to figure out all the parts ill need. Never done this before so I'm nervous about what to buy.

I know what I need but in don't know the exact sizes, dimensions, etc. :banghead:

Taking a break from researching for a little while...

    Here's the rundown...

I want high compression n/a engine.

Bottom end: Flat top pistons, h beam rods, total seal rings, etc. Brands will vary due to cost. Don't need anything top notch ill be lucky to break 350hp lol

Heads: Ported, stock valves, stage 2 cams, upgraded springs.

Intake: Maybe Boss 302 manifold with adapter plates (MMR) and a larger throttle body

Exhaust: longtubes no cats, the rest is to be decided lol

Of course all of this will require a custom tune with 91 octane fuel.

    Issues:
Flat top pistons with stage 2 cams. Will it work? Will I just need to adjust/retard the degreeing? Notch pistons? Valve relief?

Are flat tops going to be worth it or should i stick with a dished piston (less compression) and stage 2 cams?

Or ditch the stage 2 cams, run stockers, and flat tops...

Is the boss 302 intake too much? Mustang guys think they flow great and it would definitely look badass but might not be necessary.

Without know specs on the cams and stuff it'd be hard to say about the pistons. Probably have to have the engine builder measure or call the cam maker.

Just gonna throw this out there, you want high compression but what about a stroker. 5.0 stroker and you'd pickup nice tq gains which is what you'll feel in a truck. A 5.0 stroker with about 9.6:1 cr would be a solid motor and pretty street able. The problems with high rc is all the custom tunes an octane it takes

Never really looked into a stroker motor... hmm.. I probably wouldn't need new cams if I stroked it.

Just remembered its a dohc 5.4 not a 4.6. Stroking probably isn't the best option

Ill try to find some cams that are in my price range and "stage 2".

Guy on a mustang forum told me to get 96-98 cobra cams. Guess they have slightly more duration than other 4v cams. Also, I can pick them up for $150 compared to about $1000 for a new set of 4...
