I have a 1998 f-150 XLT 4x4 4.6L Its my first truck and I just cant let go of it. Plus its still good to me, I recently got the bug up my *** to replace most of the front end steering components. Just did shocks am about to do Upper/Lower ball joints and new inner and outer tie rods. I was also considering doing my torsion bars and leaf springs.... So heres my question. How the hell do I figure out what the part number for my Torsion bars and Leafsprings are? I had read something online someone suggested putting in F75Z5B326KB and F75Z5B327KB said they were spring code 7 and that they were meant for a plow truck. I have no problem putting these in as long as they aren't going to royally screw my truck. Or is it junkyard only at this point?
whats up bud? welcome to the forum. first off, what is your reason for replacing the torsion bars? is the front of the truck sagging? or are you just looking getting new parts? both torsion bars and leaf springs last a long time as long as the truck wasnt over loaded. torsion bar install might be a pain in the ass, im almost positive you need a special tool to get the torsion bars out because they are under tension. as far as the size/diameter/fitment I know some trucks (Supercrew and 7700/F250LD) both came with thicker bars, my only thought would be whether or not these bars will fit into the mount of a normal F150, someone might have more info on that. leaf springs shouldn't be that big of a deal, you could try heading to the junk yard and pulling some 7700/F250LD leaf packs. I did a little looking around at the difference between the leaf packs on those trucks compared to the normal F150s and the only possible difference between the leaf packs is that the 7700/F250LD packs have a different curve to them (ass end sits higher, more towing capacity). same amount of springs in each pack and the springs are the same thickness. could always buy some new leaf packs but that could cost some $$$$ to be honest, if your T-bars and leafsprings are supporting the truck properly, I wouldn't even bother with changing them out.
Hey thanks for the response....I just noticed I posted this in the completely wrong part of this forum lol. Under load the trucks ass end sags bad. As for just driving around it seems to be fine I have 33inch tires under the truck and thats with zero lift. No tbar crank or anything like that. The HD springs interest me. I thought about ripping my leaf springs off and just maybe doing a reconditon on them paint and grease and new clips as they are starting to fan out and squeak.
don't worry about where you posted, one of the mods will move it for you if they get a chance. just get a piece of rubber and put it in between the leafs. if it sags that much under load I would look for some new springs for the rear, look into the heavy duty springs.
Every year me and my dad go and pickup about 45 bags of mulch for the front of our house its wet too so I don't have a damn clue what the weight is. I didn't go this year but my dad said he was afraid to put all 45 on as the back tires were going to touch. I have been looking into maybe taking both leaf springs off and having them rebuilt/re curved but I cant seem to find a place anywhere near me. Right now with no weight in the bed of my truck they seem flat and the leafs are kind of coming out and away from each other. P.S. Thanks Mods for moving this
