Been having some good ol Dylan luck lately as usual. For about a month or so I've been having a clunk going on in the front end sounds like metal hitting metal. When driving on a bumpy road at low speeds i can hear it and feel it in my feet. Struts are brand new, upper A arms are brand new(duralast) Lower balljoints are factory I'm assuming (63k miles) but don't seem to have any play in them. sway bar links are brand new(Moog) So i've narrowed it down to either Hubs or CV axles. When my hubs went bad in the 04 it was more of a squeaking type noise. Question is, When CV axles go bad do they clunk like what i'm describing? Any other things i should check? all the bolts on my lift are tight as can be.
Jack the front up and check for play. Them bro spacers might've trashed your wheel bearings or something else, maybe hubs. Just yank on the wheels with it up in the air and see if they wiggle. I've only seen cvs clunk if bad when turning, not from bumps. So I'm betting bearings or hubs. Bearings tend to make some grinding noises when they fail though. But it could be those factory ball joints, maybe just not bad enough to move when you try them by hand. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G920A using Tapatalk
Well... If I turn at a low speed over a bump I do get a loud click/pop so if that's the case then CV's might be the cause. I had the wheel spacers on for probably 3k miles at most. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
K I'm like 80% retarded and just remembered that unlike ATVS, trucks do not have stub axles and won't behave the same way when a wheel bearing fails Anyway. Still, just jack it up and starting hitting things with a hammer until something moves. If nothing moves, get a bigger hammer. Eventually you'll find your problem. There's only so many things down there that can fail. If you can't find any play in anything I would probably do CV joints and ball joints. My truck has a similar clunk to what you describe and I'm pretty sure it's ball joints but haven't bothered to look into it. But they are the oldest front end parts I've got.
Each time my hubs were bad it was a grinding noise similar to having no brake pads. I don't know what to tell ya Dylan.
You need to shake that funk off. Have you thought of contacting a medium? Heard of a tv repair man who fixed them by starting at one end and replaced parts until it worked again. What about lifting the front tires off the ground, unbolting the front diff drive shaft and then turn the diff by hand to see what strange noises may becoming from the front drive axles? Does he even have to unbolt the shaft? Can he just rotate the wheel and it freespin? Galaxy S4 Cetane Powered Android
