Well I've been chasing a poping noise in my front end for a while now. I checked for play in the wheel about 2 weeks ago and there was none. Well I checked again today and shure enough my whhel bearing is bad. $228 for a new one which really sucks. I guess ill get to it either thursday or saturday.
It was the same at advanced auto and orileys. I just called my buddy that works at orileys and he's gonna get it for me with his 40% discount so it won't be as bad as I thought.
I dont know the exact info but i am going to guess that you priced it at auto zone which is a BIG no no!! You will be doing it again in a year or less. Trust me! Rock auto has a motocraft for 206 and a Ray bestsos for 128
Even 40% is too much. How bout a deal: 2 bearings for $90? http://www.jbr17llc.com/set930timken.html Enjoy...
Those are just the bearings. Understand if you look at Autozone and NAPA all those places selling as a unit assembly. I think the last one I got was around $190 for the assembly no 40% discount.
correct. and good point that AZ & O'R (including stealerships) sell them as complete units, bearing pre-pressed. This is the easiest for repair, but also the most expensive. sometimes just the bearing goes out w/ the hub (rotor) still having lots of life left. In hard times, we all don't want to drop $200 per side, so I just thought this might help those out that have access to a press (most brake shops will press in bearings for you provided you bring them everything).
if i remember correctly isnt both my bodystyle all the way up to current have a non-serviceable bearing that you can only replace the hub, correct me if im wrong but i believe thats what is required for a bad bearing.
