Well this has not been a good week for my truck. When I'm goin real slow and I turn my wheels there is a high pitched squealing noise. Its coming from somewhere in the front of my truck but I'm not certain where. It doesn't always do it but atleast 5 times a day. I'm thinking maybe the power steering pump or the serpentine belt. What could this be?

it could be the belt giving that it is under pressure from the power steering pump when turning...generally speaking the power steering pump will not have a high pitched squeal but moar of a moan or groan...spray some belt dressing on it and see what thatr does

Thanks man. I'm assuming its the original belt and if it is its got 160000 miles on it so I may just replace it this weekend

I had the same problem and when i thot it was the power steering pump, guess what,it turned out to be my my all my Idle Pulleys. The bearings were seized and that was cause the high squeal sound.Check all your Pulleys also just to be safe.I posted exactly the same sound i had on my truck about a month ago on the other forum most of came from, lol. Also my tensioner pulley was bad also.Let us know what it was.I'm glad i found out it was my pulleys after taking a closer look as i spend less money for the pulleys than the steering pump.

I would check the fluid level first. If its low it makes the same sound before you go replacing anything.

The fluids fine. I'm gonna replace the belt as soon as I get the time. The belts pretty worn out. I'm thinking maybe when the pumps under more stress and harder to turn the belt slips because it is stretched and worn out. Its the cheapest option and needs to be replaced anyway.
