alright guys im deciding to do somethin productive with my crap ton of miles i drive every day. im gonna do a 2 or 3 week test to see the absolute best fuel mileage i gan get outta my truck with spending little to no cash. i see people on here and the despised "other" forum complaining how they can only get 11 mpgs at best with thier stock truck. and we just TELL them what to do to help it. its the typical fuel filter, change oil, driving habits blah blah blah response. i want to actually DEMONSTRATE it and prove our trucks are 16-17+ mpg capable even with an 150k mile 5.4L.

ill hopefully have all of friday off from work and im gonna change my oil, put my 31s back on, take the toolbox and whip off, fab up a plywood tonneau cover, lose all unnessecary weight, if someone has the gotts/silencer mod links on hand id sure appreciate those, if not ill find them when go to do it. also if anyones got a link to interpret the door jam patch id love that too. i want to give all the specs and details of my truck just for info. the only thing i wont do is take my brush guard off. it was too much of a PITA to get on with the body lift and i dont want to re-live it haha

any ideas and tips are welcome. ill definitely try them if its within the economical budget of zero dollars. il get my gas from the same station/pump every time to keep things consistent.

when i start it next monday ill make a new thread or keep this one depending on how much traffic it gets. ill post pictures of what all i did, daily updates, miles driven, weather conditions, daily average mpgs all that good stuff. my goal is 18 mpgs.

and to the mods: if you guys could keep this in the general discussion so i could find it easier every day it would be great. and when im done you can move it to tech or wherever you think it best fits.

Proper inflation of tires will help too. If you can run 40+ psi in them, that will give you less rolling resistance which should help with mpgs. Another plus is e fans! They can be had from a junkyard for 30-40 bux. You could just stragiht wire them to the ignition with a couple relays. That would be the cheapest route with them. I saw a 2 mpg differece with them compared to the stock mechanical fan.

I have e fans, gutted cats(all 4), gotts mod, silencer removed, flowmaster exhaust and can see 20 mpg on a regular basis. This is turning 275/45 20 tires.

im gonna run probably 32 cold psi which will be around 35 when warmed up, i really wanna do this on a -20 dollar, minimum experience in anything budget haha. the only thing i plan on buying is 4 baby turnbuckles (2 bucks a piece tops) to hold down the plywood bed cover. i already have plywood and seafoam here so i dont have to buy that.
