Please explain why Explorer has AWD and 4wd buttons

    OK so someone please explain the difference from AWD and 4wd?

    Example.Yesterday got about 16'' of snow.AWD ehh OK in it.Girlfriend switched over to 4wd.Way better.

    it sounds like you just explained the difference yourself. its like the difference between a joint and blunt. they both serve a similar purpose but one is better than the other.

    OK thanks man,lol.

    Just i always here how Suburus are awesome in the snow and better than anything 4wd in the snow.Yet Suburus are AWD.

    subaru is supposed to have one of the most sophisticated awd systems.

    Well i wasn't impressed when i tried it in AWD at all compared to the 4WD.But then again ya it could be the system used.So next week I'm gonna go drive my friends WRX and compare it to the Explorers AWD.

    I'm gonna ask to borrow it while he is at work.He will say yes.lol.

    If you have a vehicle that has both, I would imagine that the AWD feature is probably somewhat of a compromise and not indicative of how a true AWD vehicle handles.

    You have to mash the go pedal to the floor and throw it sideways for my Escape to even spin a tire in the snow.
