Heard the newest diesel trucks require DEF (Diesel Exhaust Fluid). EPA mandated for reduction of NOx emissions. Wondering if/when DEF, SCR and DPF's will be a requirement for all diesel on-road engines?
My work truck is a Frieghtliner and it has that canister on the exhaust system that collects the particulates in it then burns them off at a high trmp when it fills up. I am hoping it don't become a pain in the butt. It is a 2010 with 38,000 miles on it now. I got it in april of this year.
The exhaust fluid is probably needed to lubricate the muffler bearings. I'm thinking about buying a newer diesel but with all the extra emissions standards and requirements I'm rethinking the decision.
