We're looking for a diesel, not particular on brand but I'm looking for advice from our diesel guys to see what kind of problems, mileage and over performance y'all are getting. Want to hear from 7.3, 6.0, Duramax and Cummins owners. This is mainly going to be towing our race trailer weekly

I havent had any major problems with mine, just brake calipers seizing. Ive got 119k on it, waiting on that ticking time bomb of a tranny, I hear its the weak point in the 7.3. Ive got the DP tuner with a 4 inch straight pipe from the turbo. pushing 400hp on my max tune and can get about 20 mpgs on my economy tune. Also did a DIY intake.

For towing i would go with a cummins 5.9, they are awesome when it comes to towing and get GREAT fuel mileage!

you always hear the problems (tranny, EGR, head studs), have y'all had those problems or is it all talk?

Fords are most common, cheapest, more problems associated, and not the best fuel mpg

Dodge's aren't as common ('03+), more expensive, good mpg and power but the actual trucks aren't as high quality

Chevy's are least common, most expensive, but don't really know of any problems with them

if its just for towing buy a 90-97 f350 dually 7.3. super solid truck. throw a tuner on it and exhaust and your set. My grandpa had one forever with no problems at all towing a camper across the country for years. and those years will be cheaper and if its just for taking the trailer to the track makes sense and the money you save you can dump into the racecar or the truck
