So, I have been talking to one of my coworkers throughout this deployment about different things that I want to do to the truck to get some power out of it, little ideas here and there. Well, being that he is into Subarus, 4 cylinders, boost and all that... he is also an advocate for E85. Granted most of the numbers he has seen/showed me have been on smaller 4cyl turbos, there has been a few V8s, and the numbers are substantial! I'm talking 30-50+ hp and torque. Well the real thing that I'm getting at is, is there any one here that has heard about a 5.4 liter F150 being swapped to run E85? Not talking like Flex Fuel, but E85 100% of the time, tuned/mapped to run it. If there is I would like to hear about it. We tried to do some research with no prevail this morning. Maybe I can be the first to try it?

I've heard of track guys using it since E85 is around 104-108 octane. But for daily driving I've heard it drops mpg up to 30%. Keep in mind, I have no experience with E85 so I'm just stating what I've read online

Thats true, daily driving will drop, but you wont mind as the cost offset from 87 to E85 is substantial, atleast in my areas. Another thing you want to consider is whether or not your truck is already Flex Fuel. If it is, then thats a huge headache avoided. If its not, you will need to change out a bunch of different hoses/lines as the E85 doesnt like the normal lines. I had considered runnin E85 but then my buddy told me about the line issue (he's a huge 4banger tuner guy) and I just opted to tune my gas as good as I could.

Never heard of a 5.4 conversion.

I have a Vulcan 3.0 Flex Fuel Ranger XLT.
Never ran full E85 in it.
Like Vano said E85 is corrosive.
The Ranger has a poly tank, stainless steel fuel lines,
stainless steel fuel filter housing, stainless injector fuel rails.

I have two friends who are big into STI's both had there cars tuned for ethanol (400 hp to the wheels)
They then moved south, had nothing but troubles because of the elevation, temps and humidity
The one who moved to florida sold his and the one in south carolina is selling his

Just about my only experience with it lol

elevation was the cause of their problems. down here along the coast we are at 1BAR. When you go up into the mountains and elevations, you are naturally at 2-3BAR. That makes it hard for tuning your Air/Fuel ratio as you have to have seperate tunes for different elevations (air is compressed/thinner the higher you go of course). If you dont plan on having severe elevation changes during driving, it is not an issue. however... you get my point.

    nice mention Stangshcky

Well the friend off mine did it with his 02 WRX Wagon, and is planning to do it with his Forester. Not to mention he does this as side work, tuning Subarus. His MPG went down about 5% in the city, and Like 10% on the highway. All that is perfectly acceptable for the power gains that I can possibly achieve. (Not to mention it's no longer a daily) Never once mentioned issues of corrosion though. I will bring that up to him when I get to work. The only things that I will have to potentially swap are the injectors, and the fuel pump, which is no biggie. Which brings me to another question... Does any one know the output of the stock pump, and injectors?

prolly have some 39lb injectors. not sure on the gpm on the pump though. i know from when I was gonna turbo my truck, i was plannin on goin 44lb and a new pump, so that would prolly be safe for you as well. you can get a set of TUNED injectors, but they are some MOOLAH.
