I've just purchased a '02 King Ranch for my first truck and after I change some brake pads and rotors I am wanting to see what is one of the best sounding exhausts for the 5.4. I am a student in highschool so I am on a relatively limited budget but I am still wanting to do some slight mods to it. To anyone who as a modified exhaust, any recommendations? is the drone really bad in the cab (mine is a extended cab)? certain configurations to avoid? Thanks and God Bless!

I had a 2.5" glass pack on mine and it sounded great. Magnaflow gets really good reviews as well. Make sure it exits out the back and there should be very little drone in the cab

Jordan, the issue with exhaust sound is how loud or quiet you want it, and do you want a dual exhaust or single exit. If you want a dual exhaust, do you want a true dual or a one inlet with two outlet muffler. Guessing you may be trying to get a moderate sound with less interior drone, listen to the a few of these sounds. This is one muffler (Flowmaster Super 40) with not a lot of interior resonation. I put the Flowmaster Super 44 series with dual side exit instead (under the bed near the rear tire) of rear under the bumper exit. It has a little interior resonation. It is a little loud at initial start-up, but it quiets down considerably very quickly. I bought the muffler and had a shop bend the 2.5" exit pipes for a professional appearance (total cost around $250). One issue you have to be concerned with is the size of the exit exhaust and the tip size if you add one, the larger you go the louder it will be. I went with the Super 44 Series because I did not want the "crackling" sound some mufflers give, I wanted the deep tone only. As ak_cowboy said, Magnaflow is a good system too. Whatever you decide to buy, or build, make sure everything is mandrel bent and not "crimp" bent. This video compares the Flowmaster Super 44 to the Magnaflow 16522 (dual right side exit in front of the tire). You can also check out other sounds on YouTube or the manufacturers websites.

I used to have a Magnaflow catback exhaust on my truck but my wife hated it so I went back to stock exhaust.

My 2010 5.4 has a stock exhaust and I've love for it to be a little louder, but my wife doesn't lol

I'm planning on getting a new truck in a few years anyways, so that one will get an exhaust

I personally like the tone and loudness of Magnaflow.
