I've been bothered for some time now to replace my belts, and the radiator hoses and such on the fiddys. The ol' man thinks its necessary before they are driven on any type of a trip. Now my main question to you guys is, Are the radiator hoses something common to replace? I've seen the clamps and such give on them, but really nothing on the hoses themselves. So if they look to be in good (non cracking, splitting) condition, should just the clamps be looked over and replaced? I'm looking to not replace something that will still go on strong until it decides when it wants to be replaced

    Thanks

I'd just look at the factory clamps and see how well they're still doing their job. As far as the hoses, I don't replace shat like that until I need to. I don't see the point of changing a hose unless you can clearly see it's worn to the point of breaking. Belts are the same way. I replaced my belt about a year and half ago mainly because it was squealing.

I suppose if you're on a budget like most of us it wouldn't hurt to only replace the ones that need it. Personally I would do them all just because I'd hate to drain the radiator again when one fails. I would make sure you inspect them thoroughly though.

Mine squeal like a couple of pigs lol. So the belts will be getting replaced. I'll have to take a real good look over everything. Then convince him (even tho their my trucks) they'll be fine. Hes just worried im gonna get stranded on a long road trip. Which i can understand

^^what these guys have said. belts sound like a must, hoses only if they are cracking or splitting.

^^x2 I've never really heard of a hose out right failing. Just leaking to the point of failure.

^ belts when the start squealing for sure. It's cheap insurance. I have my old one in my toolbox just in case my new one breaks on a trip, quick fix to get me home.

hoses I'd only change if they were cracked or visiblly damaged. The p.o.s. factory clamps I got rid of and changed to regular hose clamps.
