I just got the letter in the mail yesterday i have to go drop my truck off and leave it there over night
I called my local Ford dealer back in May to get my truck done and they said they ran out of parts... they're back ordered and they only get about five parts a week. They took my name and phone number and said they would call me when they had a part for me. Well, yesterday they finally called and I took my truck in today. They had it done in about 15 minutes and said my old harness did not show any signs of wear. It's a good thing because it would have been one heck of a lawsuit if my airbag would've gone off while I was going down the freeway at 70 mph.
Well from the reports I've read about, the airbag light had been on for weeks to months prior to the airbag being deployed and there were DTC's set. So while I'm glad Ford is fixing this issue, I believe most the incidents are the owners fault for not getting service. Like if your oil light comes on, you do not fix the issue and you trash the engine, then try to fault Ford. That's what the dumbie lights are for, a warning that something is wrong. And also from the reports I've read, the majority of airbag deployments occured on start up of the truck (shocker in the morning if you haven't had your coffee yet), while pulling out of their driveway, or at very low speeds. I'd have it checked out, even if you have to pay out of pocket. If the light is coming on randomly, you have a problem. Personally, I don't try to take a chance with a 6K lb truck, especially with my kids in it. Oh, and my 2006 still has yet to be recalled (manufactured in 6/2006 at the KC plant).
