What to get????

Ok so I have a question for my cousin.

He wants to buy a F250 super duty within the next few months most likely 99-04

So the question is that he drives 60 miles round trip mostly hwy to and from work so what motor should he be looking at? I know diesels get better mileage but won't knowing that maintainance is pricey should he be looking at gas??

He likes the V10 though. With a tuner from mike at 5 star he could probably get 15MPG plus. Right or wrong on this??

 

whos he? give him your V10 and you get a 7.3L

 

Who's who?? Lol I would love a diesel to roll coal but I love my V10

 

7.3 or a 6.0, be careful with the early 6.0s, some are good and some are ticking time bombs. I dont know why people say maintaining a diesel costs so much... Its really not that much more. the oil changes cost about an extra 50 bucks, but you can go 7k on syn without changing it. And parts dont cost much more than a gasser.

Wit a good amount of tuning, a diesel will outrun, out last, and outperform a gas SD anyday. And the mileage is much better. youre looking at 15 with a tuner, im looking at 20-23 with a tuner. Not bashing on your gasser, but i would recommend a diesel any day of the week.

What does he want it for? If he's getting a 250 for a commuter he shouldn't worry about mpg anyways.
The V10 isn't too bad if you can find one with a 6-speed, but the 7.3 will stomp any gasser and a lot of diesels into the ground

 

Hes not gonna be using it for towing anything. He just got his first job making really good money and that's what he wants.

 

Yeah, im not sure about in town as i drive an equal amount of freeway and in town. im getting between 18 and 23 now if im nice to the pedal, based on my rough math.

 

If he's doing 30+ miles at a time then a diesel will be fine. its when you start driving them for <10miles and not letting them get warmed up that they start having problems.
