How does one warm it up without starting it? I'll have the battery tested too.. might be a few CCA too low.
I start It and let it run for a while. Have you tried starting it cold again? I got an Optima redtop battery, 800cca vs 600 on the stock one. Total cost was $199.23.
I was just saying, I had the issue just starting it. I have been driving it on level 0 and it is fine. I haven't gotten a chance to reprogram it yet. Wife graduates this weekend and we have family coming out. Definitely will try putting it back to 2 and unplugging the tuner.
if your battery test ok... but is fairly old... i would go ahead and replace it... the last two batterys that ive had on my 08 tested ok.. but wouldnt crank it normal...optimas are about the best .. for the money... there are actually very few batterys even made than optima's ... but you would pay 350 plus for a better battery
Well, I am pretty sure it was the battery. Another cold one today and it wouldn't start at the store. Fortunately I was able to buy a new one and install it in the parking lot. Fired right up without complaint. Still on a level 0 tune though. Did the weird gauge non-sense there too. Does the voltage output on the Gryphon show the battery volts or the volts being put out by the alternator? If it is the latter then am I safe to assume that if when running it shows a strong voltage I am okay with the alternator?
You're right about the voltage. If you turn the key on it will show the battery voltage (usually around 12volts) then when it's running, it should show 14.1-14.6volts.
Yup. Confirmed with both Gryphon and a DMM at the battery. 12.6V off, 14.2-14.3 when running. Dips when heat put on full blast but recovers. Guess my 04' vintage battery has had enough! Reprogrammed to Level 2 and everything is perfect again.
