OK guys, what is the max rpm on our SOHC 5.4's. I have an Edge Evo that I can adjust and it set itself to 4300. That seems way to low and if I get on it (highway on ramp NOT racing!) it hits that limit and pops like hell. I want to widen it out but how far is safe

Then I wonder why Edge would program 1000 less on their Extreme setting? So I'm gonna go program 5100 then and see how that work out. Guess I should find out where my 1-2 shift point is too, I can adjust that but left it to the stock setting when I programmed.
    Thanks!

The motor can handle up to 6000 I think, thats as far as my Edge would let me go. But the trans converter can't handle anything more than 5400rpm, So definitely keep it below that.

I have mine set to 5800 (4.6) and 1-2 shift point at WOT is 5500. If I am in park and hit the rev limiter, it kicks in at 4700...

Thanks guys. I'm in the truck now. I set for 5k. Ill see how that works and change it if I need too. I just didn't want to set it too high. But its kinda embarrassing when you get on it with a loud muffler and then it starts popping and bucking.

You can set the rev limiter to what ever you want. The shift points at WOT is what matters. The edge had the shift points set higher than the rev limiter which caused it to pop and buck.

Ok, so if the tranny shifts @ 4700rpm and the rev limiter was set at 4300rpm thats why it sputtered, sooooo setting the rev limiter to 5000rpm would alleviate the problem since it will shift before the limiter now... correct??

The edge wants to adjust the WOT shift points by mph and I don't know what those would be so I left those at whatever factory is.
